I know that apple is either in denial or hides its errors when these occur, but does anyone know why the M1 is sluggish, slow,and at time unresponsive online when connected to the internet? And please do not point to the router or service provider because everyone knows how to troubleshoot and contact support. Information relevant to the matter would be great to better understand this issue.

Hold down the Option key while you click on the Wi_fi Icon on the menubar. this produces a snapshot of current conditions similar to this older one:
Post that information and also answer: How many networks do you see?
Then we can have an interesting discussion about how your computer is performing on your network in your network-neighborhood.
... to bypass possible software problems, run an Internet speed test and report the results. Any one will do.
This generally tells whether your observed slowdown is caused by Internet speed issues or by computer slowness from other causes.
