If you have removed a file from iCloud within the last 30 days, Apple will permit you to restore it from the iCloud dot com Settings panel. Otherwise, Apple's iCloud is not a backup service, and files you really want to retain or consider restoring should be on a local Time Machine backup

If using more than one Device to Sync to iCloud - it the files was deleted by one device - say iPhone and you are looking for that same file on Laptop - the missing file would be in the Trash on the laptop.

If the files was deleted from the Laptop and looking for file from iPhone - it is gone.

Depending on how long ago the files was deleted - Log into www.icloud.com and you may or may not still be able to recover the file.

Thx, most helpful. Here's my predicament. When I over winter in the US I take my MacBookPro and leave my iMac at home. I'm looking for the best way to backup and sync the backed up files. I currently back up both computers to separate external hard drives but would prefer to have a single backup source where the files can be synced/shared. I understand that iClouds syncing capability is not all that great. Any suggestions?
