keyboard brightness not working

So, I got a MacBook air for school it's the 2020 version, it has the fingerprint option and on the back, it has A2179, if that matters but I got it not even a year ago, out of nowhere the keyboard brightness thing just stopped working. I called apple and the operator said that it might be a bug and to wait for the update. Ok, it's been like 3 updates and it still not working, also keyboard brightness doesn't even show in my settings at all. It's like it's not even on my laptop. So I don't know what to do. It's on my menu bar but someone, please help lol thank you. :)

I am assuming that yours is the Intel version of the 2020 MacBook Air. I have the Intel 2020 MacBook Air and the M1 2020 MacBook Air. They are both updated to macOS Big Sur 11.3. Neither of the MacBooks are experiencing any issues with Keyboard lighting. If your MacBook Air is the 2020 Intel version then try the following-

  1. Reset SMC by following the directions applicable to your MacBook here ➔ How to Reset SMC. If that does not solve things then-
  2. Reset NVRAM/PRAM by following the directions applicable to your MacBook here ➔ How to Reset NVRAM/PRAM. If that does not solve things then-
  3. Enter ➔ Safe Mode and see if the screen issue still exists in Safe mode. Log out of Safe Mode and then reboot computer. If that does not solve things then-
  4. Finally if none of the above works then you can enter ➔ macOS Recovery Mode and reinstall the macOS and see if that solves it.

The point #4, above, can take up a lot of time and will test your patience. If you wish to bypass it then I encourage you to visit the Apple Store or an Authorized Service Center and take advantage of the 1YR (US) limited warranty and get this issue addressed. You can also contact ➔ Apple Support again and ask for a fix.
