Possible phishing/hack attempt

Twice in the past week, I have had my Apple ID locked on my iPad (7th Generation). This has also happened at various times within the past several months. I successfully unlock the iPad via security questions, password prompts, etc. I usually have to follow up with the same process on my iMac.

However, each time this has happened, I then receive an email to the account associated with my Apple ID within several hours to a day, with the subject title "Re: Your iCloud ID has been locked on [insert date and reference #]."

I believe that spammers/scammers/hackers are using my email address to try and access my iCloud account but failing to get the password correct, thus locking the account after several attempts that prompts Apple to ask for verification.

I'm curious if anyone has had this experience, is there a permanent solution, or is this simply a nuisance that is par the course?

Thanks!

iPad, iPadOS 14

You can also add 2 Factor Authentication to your account for more security. If the attempts continue, you might want to consider a name change.
