4K Apple TV audio sync issues?

My 4K Apple TV seems to be having audio sync issues when it comes to me playing any of my movies through home sharing. I have three other Apple TV set a third generations and neither one of them seem to be having this issue. After a couple of minutes into movie the audio and video get out of sync. I tried factory reset, I changed hdmi cable, even tried audio calibration, rebooted my iMac running home sharing. It’s only affecting my 4K Apple TV. Any suggestions to fix?

There are a number of people who are experiencing audio sync issues after upgrading to 14.5. I had it on my AppleTV 4K. Apple support had me take it in for repair and since it was still under warranty they just replaced it with a new one. My new one has 14.4 installed and I no longer see sync issues with the audio.

I was also experiencing audio popping and crackling on the videos that showed sync issues. I hope that Apple can get these issues fixed soon. While I'm ok with keeping 14.4 on my AppleTV, I had upgraded my iPad and iPhone devices and now can no longer downgrade them back to 14.4.

Just in case anyone doesn’t already know this, Apple don’t read these forums so requesting things from them here is pointless. Follow this link to lodge the fault with Apple if you want even a slim chance of your issues being heard by people who can actually fix it.

Also, if we ALL do this each week it could bump it up their priority list after all you know the old saying “the squeaky wheel gets the most grease”.

FYI everyone........

Just another friendly reminder to all people in this thread that don't already know this, Apple staff themselves do not monitor these forums as they are just for community support. If you want this issue to reach Apple and have any chance of it being fixed then you should log your feedback via this link below. From what I am hearing in this thread and seeing with my own Apple TV setup, The problem seems to be experienced most with personal media collections. Apple does not have a good track record when it comes to fixing problems with peoples personal media experience as they make zero $$$ from it.

Hi everyone,

I’m having the same issue. I have Apple TV 4K (1st gen) and I am running iTunes on Windows 10 laptop with home sharing enabled. Connected to that is my 8TB external hard drive which stores all my video content. If I select a video to play from my personal library from within the Apple TV interface, using the Computer app to select a file then I get the problem occurring. All streaming apps working fine.

Yesterday morning everything was fine. Then I stupidly upgraded to tvOS 14.6 and now I can’t watch anything from my home library. This was the main reason I bought the device - to stream my content to my TV from with the same platform as Apple TV!!

very, very bloody annoyed!!! 😡🤬🤬😡

No unfortunately it's not fixed. 14.7 has broken audio for me that was fine in 14.5.

Audio is immediately out of sync and only gets worse as the video plays. Becomes completely unwatchable after 1-2 minutes. This is all from movies that I purchased from Apple's own store, their own files, which I'm streaming to my Sony television from Apple TV. No fancy server setup, no personal library of pirated movies that I have the nerve to complain about not working. Just my every iTunes purchase going back nearly 10 years, now unwatchable from now until question mark.

If I don't sound happy, it's because I'm not.

It’s definitely the update. Absolutely nothing changed except for that update.

Video starts to lag behind audio. Jumping back fixes it for a moment but it starts to snowball into a bigger and bigger delay again.

Some videos have audio cut out entirely, randomly. Skipping back doesn’t help this. I have to pause the video, go back to the video list, re-enter the video and hit resume playing. Never had this problem with any versions of my apple tvs.

My other streaming apps have zero problems, it’s just home sharing. I don’t see a point in fiddling around with setups and configurations. More productive for us to keep pushing for a fix.

I’m gonna be completely honest I’m starting to believe it is the update in general is anybody else experiencing other issues with the latest updates on other devices I’m having issues on my iPhone as well but back to the topic as far as the Apple TV. I believe it’s the update and they really need to push out a fix for it because Hulu on my Apple TV runs perfectly fine so does Netflix. It’s obviously the home sharing at this point

Some apps don't seem to have a problem, but it's not just home sharing. I'm experiencing exactly this with Youtube and other streaming apps also on a brand new ATV 4K, so I believe others are correct that it depends on the encoding. It typically starts with audible popping and then the audio gets ahead of the video by maybe a half second. This is a pretty annoying problem.

I think at this point since Apple has failed to address or acknowledge the problem and there is not a fix any users can find, venting is the only service this discussion thread can provide. :(

Switch to PLEX my friends...they are not going to fix user videos that have not been purchased on their service or stream from a site that has a subscription.

Prove us wrong Apple techs. Do the right thing.

I am currently using InFuse as a temporary solution. But, this is ridiculous that there is obviously a problem with the update yet Apple has said nothing at all about it, showing no interest at all in fixing the problem. It is frustrating enough that I am holding off on buying the new AppleTV to see if the problem will be fixed in TVos 15. If it is not fixed, I will just keep my current AppleTV and continue to use InFuse, while using Roku for everything else. That is, until I can figure out the details on using a NAS or other device to store my movies and such for viewing. If I could bypass the AppleTV altogether, that would be better, in other words.
