iphone won't automatically download

iPhone is stuck on old operating system and won't automatically update or even show that an update is needed, so I can't update it at all. It's still on 12.5 and we're already on 14

iPhone 6, iOS 12

You need at least an iPhone 6s to update beyond iOS 12.X. An iPhone 6 just won't cut it hardware wise.
