Iphone12 unable to connect to cellular data when coming from a wifi connection

When connected to any wifi connection and I leave the radius my iphone12 is meant to hope over onto cellular data however this is not happening. I got to place the fone into plane mode to activate cellular data.Thought the latest update might fix this but it hasn’t. I have reset the network settings but did not fix the problem. Is anyone else experiencing this problem and how do u fix it. I am based in South Africa.

Thank you for the information!

Wi-Fi Assist is the feature that allows the iPhone to automatically switch to cellular when the iPhone has a weak Wi-Fi signal. This feature should be turned on.

Please note, in the 'Learn More' section of About Wi-Fi Assist, it states some conditions that Wi-Fi assist will not activate with:

"Wi-Fi Assist won't automatically switch to cellular if you're data roaming.

Wi-Fi Assist only works when you have apps running in the foreground and doesn't activate with background downloading of content.

Wi-Fi Assist doesn’t activate with some third-party apps that stream audio or video, or download attachments, like an email app, as they might use large amounts of data."

Have you checked for updates recently? Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with these steps.

After updating the iOS, Update your carrier settings on your iPhone or iPad as well.

Were you able to install the updates using the links we posted?

Do you have any 3rd party security software, or any VPNs installed on your iPhone? If you do, uninstall them.

Is Low Data Mode turned on? You can check that by following the steps here in Use Low Data Mode on your iPhone and iPad. If Low Data Mode is turned on, please turn it off.

If you turn Wi-Fi off, does the cellular data work? Do you receive an error message at all?

After you have updated you iPhone, Update your carrier settings on your iPhone or iPad

There are no errors , I have turned off wifi assist and still experience the same issue. I am generally at home and connected to wifi but when I leave the house it’s meant to swop over to mobile data but in my case it doesn’t, I would need to tap plane mode on and off again and then my mobile data will then kick in and after will work as expected.

I was told to try switching off to see if that helps. I will turn it back on , it’s how I initially had it. Any idea why I am experiencing this issue of not automatically switching to cellular data when moving from a wifi connection?

Low data mode on mine is set to standard, only other options there are lower data or 5G so can’t be turned off all together. Which update links are u referring too? I don’t have any vpn or 3rd party security software on my phone.

My phones on the latest update , being 14.6 , I was hoping software will solve the issue , guess not , even carrier details u make mention off is also fine. I’d hope we find a solution soon cos it’s little annoying leaving a wifi space only to realize ur phone doesn’t work cos it’s not connected to mobile data
