DEP on a refurbished iMac Pro

Hello,

I was wondering why I am getting a DEP notification "Apple RCC - DTS + APPLE INTERNAL can automatically configure your Mac." on my refurbished iMac Pro.

The reseller told me that this is normal behaviour on refurbished devices. Can anybody confirm?

Best Regards,

Henk

You do not mention where you bought this machine "re-furbished"... (?)

Device Enrollment Program

— you will need to de-provision this machine, as suggested it was not properly re-set for resale.

What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your Apple ...

The only way to do a clean install is to erase the hard drive and reinstall macOS.

I understand that when you try to setup your mac after a clean install, it prompts you to setup with the profile- correct?

I did some googling and found this-

  • Until the original owner removes it from DEP it will basically continue to do this.
  • Apple has the device listed as belonging to a certain organization.
  • That organization has the device set to auto-enroll. (Barney-15E has provided a better explanation below.)

At this point, I would recommend contacting apple support and seeing what they have to say about it.

No, it is not normal on refurbished devices.

The seller should have erased the drive and installed a clean system on it, but apparently did not.

This mac could have been used in a context of a school lab or a company office and have specific profiles loaded.

I recommend that you restart the mac in recovery, erase the drive and install a clean system.

Thanks for your answer. I did a new install, but this was only possible when the iMac was disconnected from the internet (otherwise the setup was completed by using the profile).

It is annoying that this notification appears very often. So maybe I have to follow another clean installation procedure. Is there any documentation available how to do that?
