How can I connect a 2nd external monitor to MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020)?

I have an employer provided MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020). I am able to connect 1 external monitor, but not a second. I've read that was a design limitation that would be upgraded this year. Has that happened yet? If not, is there a workaround?
