AirPods 2 case not charging

New first uses AirPods 2. Successfully used in their many ways, until abruptly R went silent. After following all relevant instructions, including Support, BusinessInsider’s Dave Johnson, others the large popup alert notification image appeared (see image here).

After no success I put the AirPods 2 in the case in order to follow further steps. But although after 20 minutes the AirPods went from 98% to 100%, the case did not change - from its start of only 5%!

So Apple support then suggested that sometimes the case’s built-in chip can’t recover so an overnight (I think he termed this resetting the case) charging will get things back to a fresh start again.

Has anyone had such an experience, or have useful tips?
