Backwards compatibility with HDMI 1.4

Was wondering if the new (6th gen.) Apple TV 4K was backwards compatible with older equipment. I was hoping to have something that’s future proofed for upgrades (4K/HDMI 2.1) and also operate with my current HDMI 1.4 setup. Thanks to all in advance.

Apple TV A1247...HDMI cable I am looking at an upgrade to my ATV (A1247)....and the latest 4K 3rd Gen with 64gb seems attractive. Plan to purchase a 4K TV in the near future... My q is this...can I use the current HDMI cable (A1247) on the 4k 3rd Gen ? Thanks

Yes that will work, with the expected feature limitations due to the differences in standards (1080p, etc.)
