Why is my MacBook Air running so slowly following update?

Once again my MacBook is running low since installing the latest update but this time it is so slow, I'm rapidly losing the will to live? I have cleared history and reduced 'favourites' but no change. Help, please!!!

Also checked wifi speed and that's ok

Hello Ann,

  1. Reset SMC by following the directions applicable to your MacBook here ➔ How to Reset SMC. If that does not solve things then-
  2. Reset NVRAM/PRAM by following the directions applicable to your MacBook here ➔ How to Reset NVRAM/PRAM. If that does not solve things then-

Which MacBook Air do you have? Which macOS are you running on it? Finally, can you provide an example of what is happening that makes you believe that your MacBook Air is running so slow that you are losing the will to live?

If you have a backup somewhere, such as a Time Machine backup, then I would recommend that you erase your drive and then reinstall macOS. You can restore your MacBook Air from the Time Machine.

Hello again,

I tried your suggestions and none of them worked. Not surprising as it turned out not to be an Apple problem. Despite having checked the speed directly with Sky, when I tried to watch Netflix that didn't work either along with bbc player etc.,! I reset it myself and all fine - for now at least.

I am so sorry to have wasted so much of your time. You were very patient.

Thanks for your reply.

MacBook Air (Retina 13" 2018)

MacOS Big Sur version 11.2.3

Examples of problem: 25-30 secs to load gmail, considerably longer for hotmail and 12 secs to join this discussion - not helped by sticky keys.

Had appointment for Feb 2020 re key issue at Apple shop but cancelled due to covid. Btw, I was told sticky keys were a problem with this model and my MacBook might require a keyboard replacement.

As I'm sure is apparent, I do not have a degree in Appleology so would not dare to follow your recommendations for fear of losing everything.
