Crackling/popping noise in movies since tvOS 14.5

Hello,

since I updated my Apple TV 4K (5th gen.) from tvOS 14.4 to 14.5 yesterday I hear crackling/popping noise in movies.

I can only hear this in movies.

Music, audiobooks and TV streaming via app are not affected.

Here is a sample of the problem (Spider-Man: Homecoming 5:38): https://streamable.com/2to2a9

Please guys help me to fix this.

I cannot watch my movies since yesterday, this is not really well ...

Best

Felix

Great. Keep us up to date.

I did some research.

I have hundreds of BluRays copied to m4v and converted containing audio streams to Apple Lossless Audio Codec to keep quality.

So audio streams of all movies have the ALAC but the problem occurs only with audio streams whose original source is DTS!

Dolby sources don't have this problem.

See additional text:

The only difference is this:

Duration_LastFrame : -47 ms

My conclusion ist that all audio streams lacking Duration_LastFrame have this problem!

Hey mark-s1. That's great news.

Can you please check the following with tvOS 14.VII.

Listen to some stereo music (2.0) on your ATV and then start a movie from home sharing with six channels (5.1).

Do you see that only two channels arrive at your AVR?

Background:

Since tvOS 14 I always had to "open" the channels on AVR before watching multichannel movies via home share.

I need to start a streaming app or a movie bought from iTunes and playing multi channel content then I see six channel arriving at my AVR.

ATV seems to remember this last channel configuration and now I can switch back to home share multi channel movie and I see all channels.

With tvOS 12.4 (I'm using at the moment) I don't need to "open" channels.

Hi FLX90,

Sorry for the delay in replying. Unfortunately due to the audio equipment I have there is no way for them to display on screen the format which is being sent to it. The main TV which has the 4K ATV connected to it has a set of stereo paired original HomePods which neither they nor the ATV will show what is being sent and on the HD ATV I have a Samsung sound bar which while having a basic screen on it provides no information to what audio is being passed to it.

I am over the moon excited to be able to report that I jut updated my Apple TV (A1625) 32GB to TV OS 14.7 and connecting to my TV Library still on Catalina 10.15.7 - and the popping/cackling sound on an offending movie is GONE. I was simmering in terror thinking this problem wasn't going to go away.

I can airplay a file that pops crackles on iPad to the TV and the popping is not present. Hope the update works for all and this doesn't happen again. :-)
