For Dolby Atmos from Apple TV, your soundbar needs to support Dolby Atmos in uncompressed Dolby MAT format.

If you can connect it like

Apple TV → soundbar → TV

then it doesn’t matter what the TV supports for audio.

For this the soundbar needs have HDMI-in and HDMI-out.

If you connect it like

Apple TV → TV → soundbar

then it does matter what the TV can pass through for audio, and you may need Atmos support and eARC on your TV.

This is the same for both models Apple TV 4K.
