How do you get the second line that includes fonts, text color, highlight color, bold/italics/underline, etc

Click on the Show Format Bar button (I can't remember if it is in the Toolbar by default).

You have to customize the New Message Window toolbar, not the Message Viewer toolbar.

If you want the font format to send with the email, makes sure you change it from the Default viewing font in Preferences. Mail will not tag the text as rich text unless you change the font to something different from the default message font.

Hi Bruce B.:

Welcome to the Apple Community where some of us do our best to help each other.

You can customise the tool bar by Clicking "View" and choosing "Customise toolbar" (near the bottom) on the drop-down menu.

On my MacBook Pro ... It seems "Fonts" only opens in it's own window by clicking "Format" > "Show (or hide) Fonts"

Tip: I keep "Fonts" and "Colours" always open in their own windows, since I use them so often, and don't need to "click" for them. ("Text colour" I use by highlight the text, and choosing from the open "Colour" window. )
