How to unlink my desktop Mac from my laptop Mac?

My laptop desktop mirrors my iMac. How can I 'unlink' these devices? I want to keep the information on each separate.

If I might guess at what you’re referring to, disable the iCloud Drive feature known as Documents and Desktop sharing.
