Family Sharing & Apple TV+

Got Apple TV+ for a year as part of a current Apple promotion when you purchase an Apple device.


When you share subscriptions such as Apple TV+ through Family Sharing, you send invites to those you want to bring into your family.


When one of these prospective members accept the invite, what exactly do they need to do in i

order to access the service in the Apple TV+ app?


In reviewing my wives Apple TV+ in her iPad, I notice no changes in the app which is still showing the free trial period.

  1. For this to work, the Apple ID accounts as used on the devices should match the Apple ID accounts as used for Family Sharing.
  2. The user of the eligible device will have to redeem the offer first. Once the subscription is active, then it will become available to the other members of the Family Sharing group.
  3. There is nothing to “activate” or configure for the other group members. Shareable subscriptions are shared automatically in the group.


  • If the above has been verified, and it still persists, then force-quit the TV app, then relaunch and try again.
  • If the issue still persists, force-quit the app, restart the device, then relaunch and try again.
