He is unable to remember his password

How can we retrieve his Apple ID password to get him off of this phone? The device is my husbands old iPhone 6 Plus. How can I get to his password to remove him from the 6 plus

Use Apple's iForgot service or contact their Account Security team.

Retrieving the password is only possible if you have a copy of it at your end. The one on Apple's servers has been run through a one-way encryption algorithm.
