Question is whether I need i7 core to sun with the clock and timing as well. I don't have schematics and purely guessing. Any suggestion? Thanks for your time.

By the time you go through all the cost and frustration

to do that, you're half way to a new one or at least

a newer one. Even if you had the proper removal and

reflow tools and a anti-static workstation and tools,

the odds still are that it may not work correctly.

At some point you reach a point of diminishing returns,

especially for a 9 year old computer. (that SSD you put in

probably cost more than the computer is worth).

The 4GB RAM on your 2012 MacBook Air is soldered on to the mother/logic board. There is no straightforward way to upgrade it without breaking your computer. You may find videos on YouTube showing how to unsolder the RAM and then solder the new upgraded RAM in. Do not attempt to do that unless you do that for a living. In short, RAM on your machine is not upgradable.

You may be right, however, apple support site indicated that it is upgradeable to 8gb and for that reason I went ahead and replaced dead battery as well as 128gb SSD with 512gb and s/w upgrade to MacOS High Sierra with good result. Since my MacBook was running out of RAM, I had to delete a lot of data, put a limit to no. of startup apps and moved archivable type data to an external SSD with no improvement. Youtube show inspired me to take up the next challenge to upgrade RAM. I don't want to buy a new AIR, expensive for one, can't afford in my sr. years, the 2nd.

Question is what do I replace them with to take it to next upgradeable stage. I really appreciate your response. Thnx a lot.

Grammatically you are correct, however, I replaced 128 gb flash storage with INDMEM DMPT SSD 512 gb over the weekend and so far working great, technically I mean. My motivation is to replace 2LM22 (x7) and 2MM77 (x9) with RAM modules which make up total 4gb RAM with the ones (still exploring) to 8gb.
