Thank you for posting on Apple Support Communities.
If you lost one of your AirPods, you can still technically make it work with one of them. Your iPhone will still be able to play sound out of the one.
Additionally, you could purchase a replacement AirPod from Apple (if you never find yours) and couple them back together. Check out the following resource for more information.
