My rechargeable remote is not charging, what should I do now?

I own Apple TV for 2.5 years no issues at all until yesterday remote stop working, so I plugged it in but it’s not charging, even change charging cables , didn’t help. Apple TV is working but I cannot control it without remote.

Try pairing the remote again. You won’t know the battery level until it is paired and the details are available on your screen.

could be

dirt or lint in it's connector when that happens to me I use a match or toothpick to clear it out
the connector or battery in the remote could be defect
