Apple TV 4K remote not charging

My Apple TV 4K remote went dead and I plugged it into the supplied charging cable but it is not charging and the charging light on the top front of the remote is not lighting up to show it is charging. Any ideas or help fixing this issue is greatly appreciated as I need to be able to turn on the 4K box to get to my streaming sights on the TV.
