Magic Mouse makes Final Cut Pro unresponsive (until I turn it off). What Magic is that? ;-)

I'm editing a project in FCPX, and several times during the day, when I drag the color down or up on Color Wheels, for example (this issue happens on other functions), FCPX becomes magically unresponsive (not Mac OS, just FCPX), with the beach ball. As soon as I turn my Magic Mouse off (the latest - rechargeable), FCPX magically comes back to life! So I magically turn the mouse on, and everything magically comes back to normal - until the next magical freeze, which can happen 30 minutes later. Magically, of course. ;-)

Is Magic Mouse incompatible with FCPX ?

Thanks for any help.

Hello @Tom Wolsky.

Many thanks for the recommendation.

On that day, Apple released a patch for the MacOS.

I installed it, and everything became worse - several FCPX plugins stopped working (red screens with 'T's all over the place).

So I had to visit their websites in order to learn how to fix all that mess. Everything I had to do was to reinstall the plugins and also do the 'soft-reset' on FCPX.

So I reinstalled every plugin of mine. Done my housekeeping. And it seems FCPX finally came back to life. Everything working fine. So far no more magical tricks from the Magic Mouse.

Regarding Etrecheck, I ran it and it said I had some files not associated to apps. Made a cleanup there also.

So there you have it. Lessons of the day:

  • MacOS and Final Cut Pro X do update themselves automatically;
  • Final Cut Pro X do not update their plugins automatically;
  • Plugins Update relies on Developers, which in turn have a not-so-reliable updating system (not their fault - MacOS/FCPX keeps magically changing). So be prepared for some frequent baby-sitting for your plugins.

Believe the Magic.

No, it's not. I've used one with a MacBook Pro for years.

Please post an EtreCheck report after giving the application Full Disk Access in the Privacy System Preferences. Copy the report and use the Additional text button to add it to the reply. EtreCheck is a free download https://etrecheck.com. It gives system and software information for troubleshooting.
