Target Display Mode with M1 MBP and late 2013 iMac Running Catalina

I have an M1 MBP and a late 2013 21.5 inch iMac running macOS Catalina. I saw other people say that TDM is compatible with Catalina but for me, it's not working even with my thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt 2 adaptor and mini-display port cable. Is there any fix available for me?

Nope. Won’t ever work.

Use your iMac as a display with target display mode - Apple Support

Key detail: You can connect any of these older iMac models to another Mac from 2019 or earlier for use as an external display.

The wording there is a little confusing, but your “display source” Mac is too new.
