Target Display Mode on a iMac 27 (late 2013) from a MacBook Air 13” 2017

Hello,

I would like to use a 2017 MacBook Air 13” as source display for a late 2013 iMac 27, both are running Catalina 10.15.7 using Target Display Mode (TDM) or a similar method.

The physical connection is a 2m Thunderbolt cable in respective thunderbolt ports.

On a prior thread about using TDM between two iMacs of current ages, I found the following comment;

“TDM was deprecated after High Sierra. It is not an available feature in Mojave or Catalina.”

Is there any workaround to this issue (that looks like a dead stop) that maybe used ?

Kind Regards

Tim

Hello Tim - Hampshire,

We understand you'd like to use your 2017 MacBook Air as a source display for your 2013 iMac using Target Display Mode. e'd be happy to provide information.

Target display mode requires macOS High Sierra or earlier on the iMac used as the external display. It does not work with macOS Mojave or later.

You can find additional information about this features in the following resource: Use your iMac as a display with target display mode
