How to screen record in lower quality

Hello,

I'm using QuickTime Player for screen recording but the files are extremely heavy and take a lot of space on hard drive. Also converting them into 480p quality takes ages on my MacBook Pro.

Is there a way to to set a 480p recording quality as a default? Is there another recommened recording app (free or paid)?

Problem using Quicktime Screen Capture for longer content When I try to make longer screen capture recordings (one hour +) using Quicktime Player on my MacBook Pro 2014 Retina running Big Sur 11.5.2 all it ends up capturing when the content ends is a screenshot. Short screen recordings seem to work fine. There is no error message and no communication from Quicktime or MacBook about hitting a memory limit for attempts where the recording fails. There just is no captured video at the end, only a screenshot. This is very frustrating when I sat through the same 2 hour lecture video thinking the QT recording was set perfectly and then there is no recorded video. It's ridiculously complicated enough to use Quicktime to capture screen video as you have to add Blackhole audio processing software separately but Apple never tells you that. You have to figure it out for yourself when there is no audio on your first few screen captures. Does anyone know how to hack this or even what the memory limit of video recording is?

How to maintain screen record quality while importing in iMovie? I have recorded couple of minutes of video, using my mbp and its built-in screen recorder. These videos look absolutely fine when opened in any media player. However, when I add these videos in iMovie, the quality is drastically reduced(resolution is so much reduced that words are barely readable). How can I avoid this problem? PS: Sry btw, I did not found a better topic which matches my question.

Screen recordings poor quality import on iMovie I've been trying to edit some screen recordings I have taken on my Macbook on iMovie. Yet when I import the screen recordings into iMovie the quality and resolution is worse and all fuzzy. If I just open the screen recordings through quick-player the quality is perfect, exactly how it was recorded. But as soon as it's imported into iMovie it loses that quality. Does anyone know why this is or how to fix it? It would be greatly appreciated. The first photo is the one played through quick player. The other has been exported through iMovie at 4k resolution but still is blurry. It loses quality as soon as its imported into iMovie. It doesn't look too bad on here but when its a whole screen and you want the best quality, it is very annoying.

Hello schlook,

Thanks for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If we understand correctly, you are trying to save a QuickTime screen recording at a lower quality.

By default, the recording will simply record the screen. When you go to File > Export, is when you can set it to export at 480p. We hope this helps.
