Connect to SMB server from personal laptop rather than AD computer.

I am the online editor for my school's newspaper. We all work off of an SMB server that can only be accessed from inside one of the school district's buildings. I recently purchased an M1 MacBook Air, and I much prefer it to the 2015 Mac Minis they have in the journalism room. However, when I try to connect to the journalism server, it says I cannot connect. My school district does use an Active Directory for all their Windows and Macintosh computers. I tried using "smb://****@ cobra.lps.net/journ/lse" and still was unsuccessful. Another thing that could be blocking me from accessing the server is the use of VLANs separating the "LpsSecure" and "LpsPublic" traffic.
