Fitness+ Metrics not showing from iPad HDMI to TV

Up until updating my iPad to 14.5.1, I would be able to hook my iPad up to my TV via HDMI and see the health metrics during Fitness+ workouts. The picture on my TV would be a mirror of the iPad and also have a smaller resolution, matching the iPad. Now the workout video plays to the TV like a movie or other media. The iPad screen shows that the media is playing on the connected TV, the picture is now fullscreen and full resolution, but the health metrics are missing (time, calories, heart rate, burn bar, music, rings).

Hey thegraviator,

Please check one more thing just to verify this is not unintentionally happening, because onscreen metrics aren’t available when using AirPlay.

It is possible that your device might automatically try to connect to an AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV that you frequently use.

Do you see this symbol in the upper-left corner of the iPad?

Have a good one.

Greetings thegraviator,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It seems like you do not see the metrics on the tv connected via HDMI cable from the iPad. Check the settings to make sure they are enabled.

"You can change the onscreen metrics from Apple Watch that you see on the screen during a workout. Metrics settings sync across the Fitness app on all your devices signed in with your Apple ID.

  1. During a workout, tap .
  2. Do one of the following:
  • Turn off all metrics: Turn off Show Metrics.
    • Your metrics are still collected, but they aren’t displayed on the screen.
  • Change how time is displayed: Select Off, Show Time Elapsed, or Show Time Remaining.
    • Turning off Time still shows the timer for intervals in your workout.
  • Turn off the Burn Bar: Turn off Burn Bar.
    • If you turn off the Burn Bar, your workouts don’t contribute to the community burn bar and you won’t see your position at the end of your workout."

Take care.

No, I still have the issue. I called Apple support and was told I should have never been able to see the metrics displayed when connecting my iPad to a TV. I most certainly did see the metrics since the launch of Apple fitness until updating to ipadOS 14.5.1. So according to Apple I had a lucky glitch for months. Doesn’t seem like a good answer to me.

I have the same issue. I have no prior experience with Fitness+ before today (just got my first Apple Watch). I connected my iPad Pro (11”, 2018 version) to my TV with an HDMI cable (via my USB-C dock). The metrics would not appear for me in the same way the metrics would not appear for thegraviator. The video of the workout would appear okay, but no metrics (and the option for metrics was enabled). Also, the moment I would disconnected my iPad from the TV, the metrics would immediately appear on my iPad screen. But the moment I plugged my iPad back in to the TV, the metrics would disappear again.

If I could just mirror my iPad to the TV while playing the fitness videos, that would be good enough. But that doesn’t seem to be an option. I can mirror outside of the fitness videos. But the moment I hit play on a fitness video, the mirroring is disabled.

Were you able to find a solution, thegravitor?

(And like thegravitor, I’m not connected to AirPlay.)
