When I double click, to try to make a purchase, it cancels the purchase every time. When I try a second time, it will not connect. So no purchases will be made until you can fix this or tell me how to make a purchase now. I’m using a new iPhone 12 Pro Max. Disappointed in this change.
I did enable the assist touch thing in settings. No help.

So you're trying to buy something with Apple Pay, correct? If so, the timing of the double click is a little tricky. If you have a case on your phone, remove it and try again. See this for reference:
