MacBook does not automatically connect to iPhone hotspot

M1 MacBook Pro

iPad Pro 2nd gen

Iphone 11

When I close my laptop, it disconnects from the hotspot and I need to go through the Wifi section to reconnect. My iPad has the Smart Cover and auto-sleeps when I close it. The iPad, however, does not need me to reconnect it, it just works.

I checked laptop settings, the "automatically connect to this network" is checked, same for iPad. I do schoolwork in the downtime at work and frequently close my laptop to help customers. Am I missing something so I don't have to reload sites (I often forget I have to reconnect and get a 'no internet' page) or manually do this every time? I tried waiting a minute or so with it open to see if it was a delay, but it will not connect automatically.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.0

Hello TCaron94,

Thank you for posting on Apple Support Communities.

If you are having some trouble with the Hotspot connectivity on your Mac make sure that your iPhone and Mac are both signed in to the same Apple ID and bluetooth is on for both devices.
