command-R recovery is not to be confused with command-shift-option-R internet recovery. If you cloned Lion improperly you may not have the recovery volume. And if you Mac is older than July 20, 2011, that would mean that internet recovery would have to have a firmware to install. You will need internet recovery if the recovery partition is damaged or non-existent to easily restore Lion. This tip explains more.
