scroll long bookmark list safari MacBook

I am new to the MacBook, and want to scroll to the bottom of a long list of bookmarks that extend beyond the bottom of the window. I can't figure it out or find any mention on how to do this. I see a fleeting scroll bar on the side of the bookmark pane, but can't engage it. This must be simple.
