keeping Icloud Drive files locally

hi all,

I am looking for a way to keep the originals of all the files in My Documents local.

The reason for this is I am on a very minimal connection here.

I have noticed that even when I select the option download from cloud (the cloud with arrow)

after a while it is miraculously back in the cloud.

In photos you can select "store originals on this mac"

is there a way to do so for my files in My Documents?
