Sony A7S III 4K 120 FPS imports at 60 FPS

My A7 is set up as follows:

XAVC HS 4K 120 4:2:0

When I import that footage it shows up in FCPX at 60 FPS.

I did a search but probably didn’t search good enough because surely someone else has had this problem. :-)

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Attached is a screenshot of the QT Inspector for a clip I shot set to 120 fps. Unfortunately, the frame rate does not show.

I dropped the clip into a 60p project. It was not automatically slomo. After setting retiming to automatic it slowed. When I dropped the same clip into a 24p project and did the same thing I got the desired result.

Tom - I did not see a circle in the corner of the icon. Not sure what you mean by the browser. Do you mean in the dock or is that somewhere else?

Sure it does. 119.88. This usually indicates that the camera is using a variable frame rate, or an unstable frame rate, which is a major problem in the production pipeline. 120fps is not a delivery frame rate; it's used solely for creating slomo. I have 120fps video. FCP shows it as 60p at the top of the inspector, but the extended inspector it shows the encoding frame rate.

What I meant to say was: Were you expecting it to be in slomo when it was put in a 60p project?

The QT player used to play these clips in slomo. but it seems to have stopped doing that. I only have one clip from a Sony camera, XAVC MXF that has a 23.98 frame rate, but plays in slomo everywhere. The slomo is embedded in the recording. It looks great and has no problems with applications fudging frame rates,

Tom - I wasn't sure what to expect when I dropped it into the 60p project. Using automatic retiming helped tremendously.

When I film in S&Q mode, the clip is films at my setting of 23.98 and records 120 fps and it's solid. Very smooth slomo. When I open the "120 fps" clip in QT I see the retiming bars underneath the player controls. I didn't notice that before. I guess that should have been a clue as well.
