Apple MacBook Pro US icon showing up in upper right hand of screen?

Does anyone have a US icon show up in a box in the upper right hand of their MacBook???? And if so, does anyone have knowledge of the origin of this?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.13

That's called the "Input Menu". It shows the language of the keyboard (input source) you are currently using. If you don't want the US flag, you can replace the input source called "US" with the one called "ABC" in system preferences > keyboard > input sources.
