My old phone crashed in a non-recoverable way. I bought a new phone and erroneously set it up with an old Apple ID. There is a selection to add an ID but when I enter the one I want to use, it says it is already in use and not available for me to add. How do I switch my phone to use the correct apple id?

You should be able to simply sign out of the Apple ID that you don't want to use, and then, sign back in with the one you do.
