Hey. Does the HomePod not independently stream radio/music? When I ask for a song or radio station, it’s being fed from the phone and sent to the HomePod via AirPlay. This is draining my battery as the phone is doing the hard work. I thought the HP did the steaming?
it also means if I leave the room (with phone) the music stops. Seems pointless?
HomePod should play content independently of your iPhone unless you specifically AirPlay to the HomePod from the iPhone. Are you using Hey Siri and is the phone taking the request instead of the HomePod? Is Hey Siri enabled on the HomePod? Have you tried pressing the top of HomePod to start your request?

When your HomePod is playing something, but the iPhone isn't, then the volume control in control center will connect to the HomePod so you can use it to control the HomePod. The content should be playing independently. You can put the iPhone into airplane mode to confirm.

Thanks for your reply. I’ve disabled “hey Siri” on the phone, to prevent that. The HP will react to the command but the song/track still appears on the phone screen with controls, and the airplay icon is highlighted blue (hence my concern the phone is doing the stream and the HP is just acting as a glorified Bluetooth speaker).
Ah ok. Perhaps that time I disabled the phone and the audio stopped was a time that the Siri iPhone took the command originally. Just moved to Airplane mode and the HP still playing! 🥳 Thanks very much!
