Error when adding songs to custom playlist

When I follow the exact steps to add songs to a playlist, I get an error that says something about "Due to Error -50). The only way to get a song into a playlist is to add it to my library AND download it. Is that normal behavior?

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, RGetty!

We understand you're having trouble adding songs to a playlist unless you download the song. We'd be happy to provide information to help you address this.

Try starting your Mac up in safe mode and see if you're able to add the song to the playlist: How to use safe mode on your Mac

If it works fine there, try restarting your Mac and adding another song to a playlist.

Let us know the results.

Have a great day!

Thanks for the quick reply. I tired the following:

  1. Booted my MacBook Pro into Safe mode
  2. Started Music
  3. Search for a song, clicked the "three dot" menu, selected Add to Playlist and selected my playlist
  4. No error this time but the song did not appear on the playlist.

Just as test, I opened the Music app on my iPhone and viewed the playlist there. Oddly, the song showed up there. So, it seems that my Mac Music library might be the issue. How would I go about rebuilding the library on my Mac?
