I forget my password and my mac air is not link to any apple ID. After enter the password wrong several times. there is no option for me to reset except a pop up shows my hint for password which is not very helpful. What should I do?

Restart computer in Recovery Mode ( Command + r ) Immediately at startup. In the Top Menu look for Utilities >> Terminal. The type resetpassword ( one word ) and press the return key. Follow the prompts. Remember the new password as that will be needed when restarting the computer in Normal Mode.
