Others have asked this Q but those answers have not helped me. When I take a screenshot (CMD/Shift/5) the screen is dulled except for a window identifying the shot. Click the spacebar or Enter and the image is stored as a .png. So far, so good. But then the dulling/highlight-window remains. The only way to get rid of them is to restart my MacBook Pro (Mojave 10.14.6).

I've checked the Screen Capture options and I've tried a restart in Safe mode

>>> had to repost because could not replay to the original

>>> MACOSX issue is caused by screen capture being in record mode.

>>> Need to stop screen capture to resolve.

Hi jchicken,

It sounds like when you take a screenshot on your Mac the blue screen effect remains after the screenshot is taken. We're glad you've joined us in Apple Support Communities. Let's see if this helps.

Let's double-check that the screenshot is functioning as it was designed to. Check out the links below for more information and a video from Apple Support that demonstrates how the screenshot feature is designed to work.

If the behavior still seems unexpected, continue with the following troubleshooting. You mentioned trying safe mode, have you had a chance to see if the issue happens in a new test user? Here's how to set that up in the section, "Add a user" from Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac. This will see if it's just your current user having the issue or a new user.

If the issue remains while in a test user, then we'd advise updating to Big Sur. Updates resolve issues both big and small. Here's How to upgrade to macOS Big Sur. This link will guide you through how to upgrade your Mac.

If the issue remains after following those steps, let us know what happens when you tested to see if it happened in a new user and if you had a chance to update your software.

We hope that helps with your question and take care!
