how to start in recovery mode without keyboard

I erased my disk to reinstall Mac OS in order to fix a keyboard issues. Now I can't start in recovery mode as my keyboard is still not working. how do I put my MacBook in recovery mode using the power button and possibly the track pad (it still works). Is there any way to do this?

One work-around involves pre-cog abilities. Where an external wired-keyboard

and whatever adapters, is already there and available to try for troubleshooting.

Since I've nearly always had at least two spare USB keyboards, older ones

may need USB-C or other adapter/cables to be useful with newer Macs.

Not sure this helps; while some other ideas may be available. I've none.
