Youtube video URL downloader

I used a paste URL website to download a bunch of youtube videos a couple of days ago *for personal use btw*. After finding out that you can accidentally download a virus from those kinds of youtube downloader websites or get hacked, I am now kind of paranoid.

I downloaded the youtube videos using my iPhone. The videos automatically downloaded onto my iCloud storage cause that's where the "downloads" folder is on my iPhone. And I am afraid that if I did download a virus or smth it could spread on all my devices cause you know I downloaded it on my iCloud storage 🥲

Guys how can I make sure I didn't get any viruses or something else cause I am now panicking 😩 I used this website https://en.savefrom.net/1-youtube-video-downloader-5/

iPhone 11, iOS 14

Four Thoughts:

A. A Virus?:

You wont get a virus on your Apple devices. So, no worries there. Go into iCloud, and just delete this info. On your iPhone, use Malwarebytes Mobile Security. The free version blocks popups. Read the following post to see how to use this software: Blocked numbers - Apple Community

B. Restore from a Backup:

Have a backup you made prior to this occurrence? If so  restore your iPhone from a backup that contains nothing of this. Prior to restoring, backup your iPhone, incase anything goes wrong with the restoration. If you have no backup, then know to always backup your iPhone, every-so-often, to avoid occurrences like this.

C. Consider Modifying your Credentials:

If you provide personal info (i.e. eMail), then modify your credentials, particular using a new eMail address.

and...

D. Clear Temporary Internet Files:

You are welcome.

Four Thoughts:

A. iCloud to Computer:

They wouldn't have downloaded, unless you downloaded them. So, where do you see these on your computer? If they are in iCloud, then they are not on your computer. As for you computer, use Malwarbytes for Mac.

B. Use MalwareBytes for Mac:

This is software that searches for malware/adware. So, scan with it and then remove what is found. Once removed, uninstall MalwareBytes for Mac. Then restart the Mac. It is created by longtime users of these forums. So, that is why it is the only way to go about securing your Mac, when it comes through use of software

Downloads:

  1. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac
  2. Malwarebytes uninstaller

C. Single Out this User:

See if these no longer sit on a new user. You would create a new administrator user, transfer documents over to the user, and then trash this current user.

Important:

Create a Time Machine Backup, First:

Prior to perming the above on your Mac, be certain to backup your Mac using a Time Machine Backup. That way, you can have something to restore your Mac from, should anything go wrong from here. Use an external hard drive that is at least 1.5 the total storage capacity. If you are still concerned, then restore your from a backup you made, prior to all of this.

Yeah I also thought that they would just stay on my iCloud but somehow they did download but I didn't do anything. I found them in my Recents folder and then I went to an iCloud folder in Finder app and some of the folders were downloaded already. I have no idea why maybe it's the settings. I went to the Users and Groups and luckily there were no new users nor were there any new login items. I went to the downloads folder on my computer and there were no creepy DMG files so I guess I'm safe?

For the future, you might also want to remember that you are violating Youtube's terms by downloading content that isn't yours as it is copyright protected. Unless the video has a download button imbedded, it's a violation.

And, posting a list from Terminal isn't very revealing as we are all other users and most of us are not programmers or familiar with all of the processes within Mac OS. Neither are system diagnose results. For anything like that, I would recommend that you contact Apple support.

okay. thank you. I decided to see if there was any suspicious activity going on on my Mac and looked up the users in the Terminal that run on it. Could u pls have a look at it and see whether they seem suspicious or they are just normal Mac users and I have nothing to worry about. 😭 It is just that restoring my Mac seems quite formidable or it is just that I am a total computer noob...

All looks fine to me --- not of suspicion appears.

Use of Migration Assistant:

"Formidable" though it may seem, that is why you would create a backup today, prior to this restoration. You would use Migration Assistant to restore files from today's backup.

  1. Go Here: Move your Content to a New Mac - Apple Support
  2. Scroll to: Use Migration Assistant
  3. Use: On your old Mac
  4. As it Reads: "When asked how you want to transfer your information, select the option to transfer to another Mac. Then click Continue."
