Please go-back and follow the directions, the Messages app is what you use on your Mac! You also may find it useful to turn on iCloud and sync your iPhone and Mac's messages so you get the same messages on both device.

  1. OK we figured it .. you .launch the Messages app on the desktop.. open Preferences... in the menu bar. Tick the box next to Enable Messages in iCloud (this will keeps your messages in sync between your Mac and your iOS devices).
  2. Tick the phone number and email addresses at which you would like to be reached.

and so on from this website.. https://www.macrumors.com/how-to/set-up-imessage-on-mac/

Color in not a concern. Mrs AJ's iPad has the green Messages icon and she has no issue sending messages to my Mac with the blue icon. And Apple change the name, dropping the "i" so that's gone. The is a version meaages for iOS and another for Macs, but that play well together.

If you are having issues, they are likely not due to semantics or color. Please tell us the kinds of issues you have encountered and maybe we may see something else that is the cause

Also please tell us what iOS version is on the phone. If the phone ap says 'IMessages," then the version of iOS on the phone is seriously out of date.

Thank you all.. to recap the ISSUE was can I get the iPhone iMessages on my desktop computer .. and if so HOW.

No one was able to pinpoint the HOW part in such way that I could understand.

It turns out the Message app (blue icon) on the desktop CAN sync with the iPhone (green icon) when you turn on the Message preferences on the iMac desktop, select iMessage from the two tabs and THEN:

1. Tick the box next to Enable Messages in iCloud (this will keeps your messages in sync between your Mac and your iOS devices).

2. Tick the phone number and email addresses at which you would like to be reached.

Voila they are synced and all the iPhone iMessages have appeared in Messages on my desktop

Color WAS an issue since the 2 apps appeared, in color and shape as two different apps.

If they were the SAME app they would have the same identifiable icon.. As for Mrs. AJ's iPad it obv. had been a synced connection between the two all along.

I was unaware that this could be done, since both apps come with their respective devices and look completely different .. had they been synced or identified as compatible from the beginning I would not be asking this question .. the iPhone iOS is 12.5.3.. and the apps are updated all the time, but I cannot see the Message app version anywhere.. but it does call itself iMessage.
