Big Sur - Command + Tab is automatically rearranging topmost app window

I recently upgraded to Big Sur.

Now whenever I use Command + Tab to switch between apps, when it switches to the selected app, if that app has multiple windows opened, it automatically switches to one of the windows (the "default" window -- I think it's the last one opened), instead of leaving the current top-most window on top.

So I am constantly having to change windows to get back to my top window after having used Cmd + Tab to switch between apps.

This wasn't he behavior before I upgraded to Bug Sur.

My current version is 11.3.1

Does anyone know how to change it to remain on the currently top-most window in the newly selected app?

Hi abrausch,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities. We understand that when you use the shortcut to switch between apps you are having to change back to the top window and we would like to help! We'd like for you to try the following troubleshooting steps and check to see if you have the same problem after each one:

  1. Restart the app: If an app on your Mac stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open
  2. Restart Mac
  3. Restart Mac in Safe mode: How to use safe mode on your Mac

abrausch,

We are so happy to hear that your problem was resolved! Restarting the Mac is one of the best things that you could do to fix a problem with the Mac. Since many different settings and peripherals maybe involved there is not definite answer as to why this problem could have happened. “If you think your Mac might have a hardware issue, you can use Apple Diagnostics to help determine which hardware component might be at fault.” Click the article below to learn more about Apple Diagnostics.
