Background App Refresh not working on any app.

I have an iPhone X running iOS 14.5.1. Many apps are not updating their content while in background. Apps like WhatsApp or Telegram only update their content when I manually open the app. In the case of WhatsApp this becomes very clear because as soon as the phone screen is locked, WhatsApp Web ceases to function and no longer detects that the phone is there. Background App Refresh is enabled under Settings for all apps. This is NOT related to notifications.

I do not wish to factory reset the device or reinstall the apps because I have lots of info in both apps that would be lost.

It appears that you're having a problem with Background App Refresh on your iPhone X on iOS 14.5.1. When you open an application, new content only shows afterwards. Good job on check if Background App Refresh has been turned on, and we're glad to provide assistance.

Switch apps on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support -- Scroll down to the section titled "Use Background App Refresh". If you close the apps instead of simply switching, they won't be able to check for new content.

You only mentioned WhatsApp and Telegram. What other apps are you seeing this behavior? Are you seeing this with any Apple applications? Besides checking that Background App Refresh is on, what other troubleshooting have you tried? Did this issue start after updating your iPhone to iOS 14.5.1 or before?
