What is best external drive options for 2018 Mac Mini?

I have 2018 Mac mini w/internal 128gb ssd. Obviously that is not enough storage, so I need options for an external drive to get the additional storage I need for music, photos, documents, movies, etc.

Considering I only have 2-USB ports and 4-thunderbolt ports, what drive options should I consider? Speed of data transfer is most important and I'd prefer SSD over HHD. GO!

They are slightly more expensive than off the shelf USB-C SSDs, but they tend to be more reliable.

One more comment to add, make it two drives, one primary

and one as a backup. Trusting you digital life to a single

device is an accident waiting to happen.
