iMac desktop unable to boot.?

iMac desktop attempts to boot on but stops 1/4 . Have shut down,quit omac disk update etc. when I click restart same happens. Help.

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.14

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes.
