Carrier Network Update Prompt

Hi there,


I had a message pop up on my iPhone saying “update carrier settings”


And I went ahead and clicked “update”


I am just not sure if it was safe or if it was a virus


please help!!!!

There are iPhone settings that are specific to a carrier. When you first connect to a carrier with your phone the carrier’s settings needed to use the network are downloaded onto your phone, and they define things like the APN (Access Point Name) settings, options that the carrier offers such as 3G/4G/LTE network selection, call forwarding options, caller ID options and several internal settings. These actually come from the carrier, not from Apple. Occasionally carriers need to tweak the settings. When they do the prompt you to install the updated settings.
