Why do I get a message popping up that says update carrier settings?

What is going on I get a weird pop up message saying update carrier settings, with two options confirm Or denial. I’d this normal , real? Should I trust it or not?

Yes, you should trust it. Carrier Settings customize the phone for the carrier you are using it with. You can update it manually by following these instructions→Manually update your carrier settings on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
