Cannot call/receive phone calls on MacBook Pro via iPhone using Hotspot

  1. My MacBook Pro (2019 13" TB) and iPhone (Xr) are tuned as stated here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT209456
  2. Both devices connected via Instant Hotspot
  3. Calling on my iPhone leads only to iPhone showing incoming call.
  4. Ttrying to call from Mac shows for start calling message in progress then failure message with retry/cancel option

My only guess is that Hotspot connection is not "connection to the same WiFi-network" mentioned in AppleSupport instructions (see the link above)

I have no opportunity to try other WiFi than Hotspot

So, dear fellows, any Help?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.3

Hello, maxfromrussia.

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities. We understand that you’re attempting to set up iPhone Cellular Calls on your MacBook Pro, but you’re not able to get the call to complete successfully on your computer.

Your suspicion that using the Instant Hotspot on your iPhone may be the cause is correct.

Both your iPhone and MacBook Pro will need to be connected to the same network. When you use your iPhone to project its cellular signal into a Wi-Fi network for your computer, your iPhone isn’t technically connected to the same network.

You’ll need a network where your iPhone and MacBook are connected to the same in Settings > Wi-FI and System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi.

Warmest Regards.
